beach days

in late (HOT) june we traded the comforts of our air conditioned house for a breezy little beach cottage for a few days.  it was just what we all needed.

we maintained a good little routine: beach in the morning, home for naps and dinner and beach in the evening.  what else could you ask for.

we ate a lot of fun junk food, including crazy cereal.  henry loved it. clearly.

some buddies joined us for the day.  dylan (and m&m's) bring out finn's true smile, which my camera rarely does.

boys! lots of boys! such fun they are.

we love this crew!

if you ever can't find henry, look for ryan.  they are best buddies, these two.

i adore this smile on ryan.  relaxed, happy and on VACAY!

its possible henry may have a future in baseball.  his stance, his aim, that serious focus. and his accuracy is dangerous. especially indoors.

finn asked me to take his picture and then struck this pose.  i was dying.

we did a lot of exploring and brought a lot of treasures home!

one day, we ventured to point reyes and hit up the museum (which was awesome!) and we finally did the earthquake trail that has been on my bucket list for years!

the space where we are standing on the san andreas fault is how far the earth moved (in 1906?) look at the distance between those fences!  it was pretty fascinating and exhilarating.

heart's desire beach.  and a perfect little pool to play in! ryan and i were actually able to sit back and enjoy a cold one!  which, as you well know, doesn't happen often near large bodies of water and children.

on the way home, while the babes napped, ryan drove me to McClure beach - which may be my favorite spot on earth.  i hiked down and enjoyed the view for a few minutes.  i can't even describe how i felt, but i do know that i had the biggest smile on my face.

i remember this moment well:  everyone happy, everyone quiet, beach tunes playing, and some chardonnay with oysters.  i told ryan i hoped i remembered it forever.  actually, what i really hoped is that i would be able to channel this peace in future wild and chaotic days at home ;)

ice cream from the general store! because, duh, its vacation.

i adore this picture.  that wild hair and little boy walk.

the next day, we packed up and were all a little grumpy and sad for it to be over, but i forced everyone on the steps for one last picture.

i wonder if we will be back here again one day.  and i wonder how big those two boys will be.

i hope i never forget how small and delicious they once were.
